Which to check first, by build:

- Tall and classic → 501 or 505. The 501 (button fly, 100% cotton) is the heritage pick — and it comes in a verified 36″. The 505 is the zip-fly workhorse, but it stops at 34″ on the standard line, so tall men should hunt the 505’s Big & Tall version instead.
- Tall and relaxed → 550. The roomy ’90s cut for guys who don’t want anything touching their calves. (The 569 is discontinued — don’t chase it.)
Big & Tall: how it actually works
The Big & Tall line is where Levi’s 38″ inseams live. It’s a separate collection (not just longer sizes of the standard line), and three things about it matter:
1. The models are limited. The B&T standouts we verified: 511 Slim Big & Tall ($35.98 sale / $69.50 list; 88% cotton, 10% polyester, 2% elastane), 501 Original Big & Tall ($50.97 sale / $84.95 list; 99% cotton, 1% elastane), and 541 Athletic Taper Big & Tall ($45.98 sale / $69.50 list). 3. Stock is uneven. B&T long lengths sell through and restock irregularly, and availability varies by wash. If your size is gone, it may come back — or not. Check back; don’t overpay a third-party seller for a restock that might be two weeks out.
