This Week in Denim: Baggy Jeans Take Over Fall 2026
1. Baggy jeans take over fall 2026
Loose denim is the story of the season. Levi’s launched its “Keep It Loose” campaign with ROSÉ in mid-September, and Calvin Klein followed with “Feel the Fit” featuring Jung Kook, spotlighting ’90s-inspired straight and baggy jeans. Fashion coverage of September’s New York Fashion Week — including Anne Hathaway’s much-photographed appearance — has tied the baggy silhouette to the broader fall 2026 mood: relaxed, dark, and slouchy.
The tall-fit takeaway: baggy cuts eat length. A 34-inch baggy jean that looks relaxed on a 6’0″ model can read as cropped on a 6’4″ guy. If you want in on the trend, shop it in 36-inch or longer inseams — our athletic-build guide covers relaxed cuts that still taper clean.
2. You’re probably washing your jeans too much
A September survey of more than 2,000 UK adults by retailer FatFace found that 40% of jeans wearers wash their denim after every wear, or every two to three wears. FatFace’s own guidance: stretch it to every 5–10 wears when you can, and wash at 30°C or below. (It’s retailer-sponsored survey data, so take the exact numbers with a grain of salt — but the direction is right.)
The tall-fit takeaway: less washing means less shrinkage, and shrinkage is the enemy of a 36-inch inseam. Wash cold, hang dry, and your long jeans stay long. Our tall men’s guide has more on keeping the length you paid for.
3. Cone Denim is leaving China
On September 3, Cone Denim — one of the heritage names in American denim fabric — announced plans to exit denim manufacturing in China by the end of 2026 and concentrate production on its platform in Mexico. It’s a supply-chain story more than a style story, but it signals where a lot of the denim in your closet will be woven next.
The tall-fit takeaway: mostly background noise for fit — but factory shifts sometimes show up as price changes on the tag down the line. Worth knowing, not worth worrying about.
That’s this week in denim. New roundup every Friday.
